Patel claims that Comey’s team had found “substantial” mishandling of classified information, yet he unilaterally decided not to pursue charges without fully informing the DOJ or Congress. “Comey ran an intelligence operation, not a law enforcement investigation,” Patel stated, asserting that the former director used the FBI as a political tool.

Patel also pointed to the now-infamous July 2016 press conference in which Comey publicly cleared Clinton of criminal wrongdoing while simultaneously criticizing her handling of sensitive materials.
