San Pedro de Macorís — A tragic traffic accident on the Eastern Highway has claimed the life of Ruth Delania Sosa Marte, a resident of the Barrio Lindo sector in San Pedro de Macorís.

The fatal crash occurred at kilometer 10 in the Cumayasa area during the afternoon hours. According to authorities, a gray Mazda Demio traveling east to west lost control under circumstances that remain under investigation.

Victims and Emergency Response

Three women were inside the vehicle at the time of the accident:

  • Angela Merici Ubiera Sosa (driver)
  • Maribel Sosa Polanco
  • Delania Sosa (deceased)

Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene. The two survivors, Angela and Maribel, were transported to Hospital Villa Hermosa for urgent medical care. Medical personnel reported that both sustained multiple injuries and remain under observation.

Tragically, Delania Sosa was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe trauma consistent with a high-impact collision. Her body was later examined by a forensic specialist and released to her family for funeral arrangements.

Investigation Underway

The damaged vehicle was taken to headquarters in La Romana as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials from the Dirección General de Seguridad de Tránsito y Transporte Terrestre (Digesett) are working to determine the precise cause of the crash.

Preliminary assessments suggest:

  • No other vehicles were involved
  • No public or private property was damaged
  • Possible contributing factors may include speed, mechanical failure, or road conditions

Authorities temporarily closed part of the highway to document evidence and clear debris, causing short delays in both directions.

Community in Mourning

News of Ruth Sosa’s passing quickly spread throughout Barrio Lindo, where she was widely known and respected. Friends described her as kind, hardworking, and generous.

Messages of grief filled social media, with loved ones expressing shock and sorrow at her sudden loss. Community members have begun organizing support efforts to assist with medical and funeral expenses.

Road Safety Concerns

Local leaders have also renewed calls for improved traffic safety measures along the Eastern Highway, a stretch that has seen several serious accidents in recent years. Residents are urging stricter speed enforcement and enhanced signage to prevent future tragedies.

A Digesett spokesperson emphasized that every fatal crash represents both a personal tragedy and a public responsibility, reaffirming their commitment to a thorough investigation.

Funeral arrangements for Delania Sosa are being organized privately in her hometown. As investigations continue, authorities remind drivers to remain alert, respect speed limits, and wear seatbelts — simple precautions that can save lives.

Her passing is a painful reminder of how quickly circumstances on the road can change. Those who knew her say she will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the positive impact she had on her community.
