The husband locked his pregnant wife in a cold storage room, hoping no one would suspect a thing — but he had no idea what was about to happen
Anna worked as the head chef at one of the city’s most famous restaurants. She was respected, loved, and admired for her kindness and talent.
When she found out she was pregnant, her happiness was boundless — after years of waiting, a miracle had finally happened. But her husband, a wealthy businessman, reacted very differently.
— We didn’t plan to have a baby, — he said irritably. — I’m having problems with my business right now.
— Yes, but this child was sent to us by God, — Anna replied gently. — We must accept and love it.
He didn’t say anything more, but from that day on, he changed — cold, distant, and almost like a stranger. He began spending more and more time away from home, stopped caring about his wife’s health, and seemed to be waiting for her to disappear from his life.
Months passed. Anna continued to work in the kitchen, trying not to dwell on her sadness. Her colleagues often told her she was overworking, but she smiled and said:
— I feel good when I’m working. You’re my family.
One evening, after the restaurant had closed and everyone had gone home, Anna changed clothes and was getting ready to leave. Suddenly, her husband appeared in the doorway.
— What are you doing here? — she asked in surprise.
— Nothing, — he answered with a forced smile. — I just wanted to drive my pregnant wife home.
Anna felt happy. For the first time in months, he mentioned the baby. Her heart fluttered — maybe things would finally get better? She didn’t notice that his hands were shaking and his eyes darted nervously around the room.
— Are all the employees gone? — he asked calmly.
— Yes, I’m alone here. Why do you ask?
— Just curious, — he said, and suddenly shoved her hard into the large walk-in refrigerator, slamming the heavy door shut behind her.
Anna fell to the floor and screamed:
— What are you doing?! Let me out! Please!
— You’ll spend the night here, — he said coldly. — I hope we never meet again.
The temperature inside was near freezing. Anna trembled, shouted, pleaded, but no one could hear her. From the shock, her contractions began. She collapsed to the floor, clutching her stomach, trying to hold onto what little warmth she had left.
Her husband calmly walked away, convinced that by morning it would all look like an accident. No one would suspect him — the refrigerator was often used by the kitchen staff.
But he didn’t know… that his life was about to collapse.
At the security post, a young guard on duty noticed something strange: according to the checklist, someone was still inside the building. He went to check and saw a figure inside the refrigerator. He ran to the door, opened it — and saw a woman lying on the floor, half-conscious. He immediately called an ambulance.
Anna was taken to the hospital just in time. Because of the shock, she gave birth prematurely — but the baby survived. In her hospital room, after regaining consciousness, Anna told the police everything.
Her husband was arrested right at his workplace. During the interrogation, he confessed:
— I had debts. I hoped to inherit my wife’s house and money. I didn’t think it would go this far…
Now he’s serving his sentence in prison, while Anna holds her baby boy in her arms every night, looks into his eyes, and whispers:
— I survived because of you. Because of you.
