A millionaire returned home unexpectedly… and was shocked by what he found the maid doing

Michael’s mind raced with possibilities, each more concerning than the last. Was Gloria giving Emily something harmful? Or was this simply an act of kindness misunderstood? He needed more information, but he couldn’t risk his daughter’s safety. Without a moment’s hesitation, Michael pushed the door open fully, the sudden movement startling both Gloria and Emily.

Gloria looked up, her eyes wide with surprise and guilt. “Mr. Whitmore! I… I didn’t know you were back,” she stammered, the jar slipping from her fingers and rolling onto the carpet. Emily, sensing the tension, began to fuss, her small hands reaching for her father.

Michael crossed the room in a few strides, his focus entirely on the jar. Bending down, he picked it up, scrutinizing the label. It was a homemade concoction, something he couldn’t immediately recognize. His heart pounded as he turned to face Gloria, his voice edged with controlled fury. “What is this?” he demanded.

Gloria’s hands trembled as she wrung them together. “It’s just a natural remedy, sir. For Emily’s colic. My grandmother used to make it for us when we were babies. I thought… I thought it might help.”

Michael’s anger did not abate. “Why didn’t you tell me? Everything Emily consumes is monitored for her health. You had no right to feed her anything without my permission.”

Gloria’s eyes filled with tears, but she held her ground. “I only wanted to help her. She was in pain, Mr. Whitmore. The medication prescribed wasn’t working, and I thought a natural option might be better.”

Michael felt his resolve weaken slightly, understanding mixed with his rage. He knew colic could be challenging, and he had struggled with finding the right solution for Emily’s discomfort. But trust had been broken, and Gloria’s actions were reckless, even if well-intentioned.

He took a deep breath, trying to maintain his composure. “Gloria, I appreciate your concern for Emily, but you must understand that her health and safety are paramount. Any decision about her care must go through me. This cannot happen again.”

Gloria nodded, tears spilling onto her cheeks. “I’m so sorry, Mr. Whitmore. I never meant to betray your trust. I was just trying to help her.”

Michael softened slightly, recognizing the genuine concern in her voice. “We’ll talk about this later, Gloria. For now, please leave us.”

As Gloria left the room, Michael turned his attention to Emily, who had calmed in his presence. He held her close, her small body fitting perfectly against his chest. He vowed to keep a closer watch over her care, to ensure nothing like this would happen again. The incident had been a wake-up call—a reminder that he couldn’t be too careful when it came to his daughter’s wellbeing.

In the days that followed, Michael consulted with Emily’s pediatrician, discussing safe alternatives for her colic and ensuring her care plan was understood by everyone involved. Trust would need to be rebuilt, but he was determined that Emily’s home would remain a safe haven, where nothing was left to chance.
