On the day I went into labor, I drove myself to the hospital (Part 2)

Julian stepped into the room with a cold smirk, followed by Eleanor in her usual pearls. They assumed I was completely helpless and offered to cover my medical bills only if I signed over temporary custody of my newborn.

Before I could answer, Dr. Marcus Thorne stepped between them and the bassinet. The atmosphere in the room shifted instantly when Eleanor recognized him. It turned out Dr. Thorne had a painful past with Eleanor and Julian—he was Julian’s estranged father whom Eleanor had cut out of his life decades ago. When Dr. Thorne looked at my son, he recognized the exact same birthmark that both he and Julian carried.

When Julian tried to mock me for being broke and alone, I pulled out a copy of the evidence folder I had prepared. I showed them the printed emails where Eleanor explicitly discussed freezing me out and ruining my reputation, alongside records of wire transfers and forged signatures on my insurance cancellation. Julian tried to grab the papers, but Dr. Thorne blocked him, warning that the police would be called immediately.

The next morning, Julian and Eleanor returned with their lawyers, fully expecting to intimidate me into surrender. Instead, my attorney, Chloe Park, walked into the room accompanied by hospital administrators and a police detective.

Chloe presented a comprehensive case detailing financial coercion, insurance fraud, defamation, and misuse of charitable funds. When Julian angrily claimed he didn’t know Dr. Thorne, he accidentally confessed on the spot to knowing his father’s identity all along, destroying their legal credibility.

Over the next six months, Julian’s business collapsed under official investigation, their charitable foundation was frozen, and Eleanor faced formal criminal charges. Their custody petition was thrown out, leaving Julian with only strictly supervised visitation.

A year later, I established my own successful firm as a forensic contract consultant. Standing in my office while my son slept peacefully and Dr. Thorne read him a book, I received one final desperate text from Julian asking for help. I replied that he had only lost what he tried to steal, blocked his number, and finally enjoyed the quiet life my son and I deserved.
