Our Neighbor’s 17-Year-Old Babysat Our Kids for One Night – We Came Home to Signs of a Wild Party and Our Daughter Asleep in the Middle

We got home a little after four in the morning and found our lawn covered in cups, bottles, pizza boxes, and paper plates.

It looked like forty teenagers had thrown a party at our house.

But every neighbor on the street insisted they had heard absolutely nothing.

And the strangest part?

Our babysitter claimed she hadn’t seen anything either.

My sister had gotten married that Saturday.

My husband Mark and I left the house around two in the afternoon and didn’t return until just after four the next morning.

The second our headlights swept across the front yard, Mark stopped the car halfway into the driveway.

There were plastic cups scattered across the grass.

Bottles in the flowerbeds.

Pizza boxes near the front steps.

Paper plates stretched almost all the way to the fence.

“What the hell happened here?” Mark whispered.

Our neighbor’s seventeen-year-old daughter, Chloe, had been babysitting.

We had known her since she was practically a baby herself.

She had looked after our six-year-old daughter Mia several times before, and because our son Noah was fourteen, Chloe was mostly there to supervise Mia and make sure nothing ridiculous happened while we were gone.

I trusted her completely.

Then I put my key in the front door.

Before I even turned it, the door swung inward.

My stomach dropped.

The hallway looked just as bad as the lawn.

Cups. Plates. Someone’s jacket.

A paper crown from a fast-food restaurant we never visited.

The mess continued through the kitchen and into the backyard.

Outside, empty soda bottles and pizza crusts covered the patio.

A plastic tablecloth hung halfway off the table.

Then I saw Mia.

She was asleep on the living room couch, still wearing the clothes she had worn that afternoon.

Chloe sat in the armchair near the window with her phone facedown beside her.

She looked exhausted.

“Chloe,” I said quietly, because Mia was sleeping. “WHAT happened here?”

She looked around as if she had just noticed the mess.

“I don’t know what to tell you. It was already like this.”

“No, it wasn’t.”

“I sat here all night. I didn’t see anything.”

I stared at her.

“Where’s Noah?”

“Asleep.”

“Did he have friends over?”

She shook her head. “No.”

My anger rose instantly.

“Then how did enough trash for forty people end up inside my house?”

“I don’t know.”

Her voice was calm. Too calm.

I wanted to yell.

Instead, I told her to go home.

Chloe picked up her jacket and stopped near the door.

“I’m sorry.”

“For what exactly?”

She looked at me for a moment.

“For tonight.”

Then she walked out.

That answer stayed with me.

I checked Mia first. She was fine. No injuries. No sign she had been scared.

I carried her upstairs and tucked her into bed.

Then I looked into Noah’s room.

The lights were off. He appeared to be sleeping.

I didn’t wake him.

Mark and I spent almost two hours cleaning the worst of the mess.

By six-thirty, I gave up.

I was still wearing the blue dress from the wedding.

My makeup had smeared beneath my eyes.

My feet hurt so badly I was barefoot.

And I was far too angry to sleep.

So I walked next door.

Dave, our neighbor, answered holding a mug of coffee.

I was ready to demand answers, but what Dave told me left me in complete shock…
