Paramedic Saw My Husband Smiling While My Child Couldn’t Breathe… (Part 1)

After two nights away at a work training, I came home carrying a suitcase, a dead phone battery, and the eager wish to hug my five-year-old daughter, Addie.

When I opened the front door, the house was eerily silent. No cartoons, no little footsteps, and no sweet voice shouting “Mommy!” from the hallway.

The sirens arrived at 6:26 p.m., flashing red lights across the dark living room. Two paramedics rushed through the door.

The second paramedic, whose nametag read DAVIS, scanned the room—noticing the blue inhaler sitting on the kitchen counter just out of the little girl’s reach, and my husband standing there completely unbothered.
