The Unexpected Package: What the Manager Delivered to Room 200

While folding the towels, I noticed a woman in a hotel blazer watching the rude man from the front desk.

She checked the guest list, studied his face, then hurried into the manager’s office.

I was too upset to think about it at that moment.

Dolly stood beside me, fighting back tears, and asked, “Did we do something wrong?”

“No, sweetheart. Sometimes adults have bad days,” I reassured her.

Suddenly, a waiter named Terry approached carrying a wrapped box.

Instead of stopping beside us, he walked straight to the rude man.

“Mr. Anthony,” Terry announced loud enough for everyone around the pool to hear, “our manager asked me to give you this personally. You are our two-hundredth guest today.”

Anthony sat up proudly and said, “It’s about time someone here showed some class.”

He opened the package with a smug smile, clearly expecting a grand prize.

But the moment he saw what was inside, his face turned completely white.

The box held a framed newspaper photograph and an old letter.

“Our manager recognized your name,” Terry explained. “She remembered you from an article she has kept in her office for years.”

The photograph showed a younger Anthony standing beside an elderly woman and two small children.

“Years ago, you founded a charity for grandmothers raising orphaned grandchildren,” Terry continued. “That article gave our manager hope during a difficult time.”

No one around the pool moved a muscle.

Terry unfolded the letter beneath the photograph and read one sentence aloud: “I pray Anthony never forgets the grandmothers who still need him.”

Anthony’s hands trembled violently as he snapped, “That was years ago! I don’t do that anymore. I’ve changed.”

“Yes, sir,” Terry replied calmly. “We noticed.”

Dolly tugged my hand and asked, “Why is he upset?”

I looked at the woman in the photograph and realized she could have been me.

“He remembered the person he used to be,” I whispered.

The manager, Patricia, stepped forward and said, “Mr. Anthony, I need to ask you to leave.”

He stared at her in total disbelief.

“My staff witnessed how you spoke to this grandmother,” she continued. “She is exactly the kind of person you once built your reputation helping.”

Anthony tried to answer, but nothing came out of his mouth.

“When I recognized your name,” Patricia said, “I hoped you were still the man in that photograph.”

He gathered his things, tucked the frame under his arm, and walked away beneath the stares of everyone around the pool.
