I Slept With a Stranger on My 62nd Birthday… (Part 2)

I was beginning to think I had simply scared myself over nothing when I reached inside my purse and noticed something terrifying: a small, hidden key was missing from my inner pocket.

It was the secret key to the hidden safe in my apartment, an item I had never told a single living soul about, except for my own children years ago.

Inside that safe rested my late mother’s irreplaceable heirloom jewelry, the original legal documents for my apartment, and the cash I had spent decades saving for my retirement.

A freezing chill ran straight through my bones as I frantically called a taxi and rushed across the city, praying with every beat of my heart that I was wrong.

When I reached my apartment floor, the front door was closed and the lock appeared completely untouched, but as soon as I hurried into the bedroom, my worst fears were confirmed.

The safe door stood wide open, and everything inside—the money, the precious jewelry, and the crucial property documents—had been completely wiped out.

My hands trembled as I reached for my phone to call the police, but before I could dial, my eyes caught sight of another photograph left right on the dressing table.

This time, it was a crisp picture of Daniel, but standing right beside him with a wide, familiar grin was someone I knew better than anyone else in this world: my own son.

The photograph had clearly been captured several weeks earlier at a local café, proving they had crossed paths long before my lonely birthday evening.

Flipped over, the back of the photograph displayed an address, a specific time, and a short, devastating message written in cold ink: “Your son arranged all of this.”

Staring at those words in total disbelief, the room felt as though it was spinning out of control around me.

The most terrifying part wasn’t merely that a handsome stranger had ruthlessly preyed upon my birthday loneliness and robbed me blind in the middle of the night.

Far worse was the sickening realization that our chance meeting at the bar hadn’t been a coincidence at all, and Daniel had known my exact identity before he ever approached my table.

Which meant that someone sharing my own blood, someone I had raised and loved unconditionally, had carefully orchestrated the entire cruel setup just to steal my life’s savings.
